Ultimate Day - Salamanca

Two weeks ago I attended an Ultimate Frisbee hat tournament in Salamanca, Spain. The tournament was called 'Ultimate Day,' a play on words given the weekend's end-of-the-world theme. It was hosted by Quimera, Salamanca's team.
Leaving midday on the Friday gave me time to make, what are becoming, my usual tournament roadtrip cookies.

 Chocolate chip cookies
(A foreign concept here in Spain, Spaniards are often bewildered at how exactly the chocolate doesn't melt...)

I and a few other Quijotes armed with cookies and packed lunches started the ~3-hour drive northwest.
On the way, lucky to be in no rush, we stopped to stretch our legs...

Max and Mary's attempts...

And then we found stairs...

Fun but not recommended as we spent the rest of the weekend picking hay splinters out of our hands...

Upon our arrival in Salamanca we went straight to the Polideportivo (sports center) where we were sleeping for the weekend.

(gym floors, not so comfortable...)

Unlike most tournaments we got to see a lot of the city. We walked around the city after arriving and  the welcome party on Friday night consisted of a scavenger hunt around the city.
The first day of the tournament was on a grass field on the outskirts of the city. My team was named 'Cocomes,' apparently a Mayan dynasty, to go along with the apocolyptic theme of the weekend.

The second day of the tournament was played on a dirt field and the weather wasn't great...

Despite the weather we got some great games in and I even got a few playing shots of the Quijotes in attendance.

Max's team won the tournament!
Here he is with the awesome tournament trophy.

  1. I'm so jealous of the hay bales. They look super fun to climb up, and the pictures are awesome. Seriously, great great pics of people on the hay bales!
